2017 DAYL Dinner with the Judiciary

Avoiding the Danger Zone: Navigating the Ethical Interplay Between Civil and Criminal Cases

On October 17, the Dallas Association of Young Lawyers will host its annual Dinner with the Judiciary. The Dinner is one of DAYL’s signature events as all Dallas Judges are invited to attend to mix and mingle with DAYL and Dallas Bar members. This year, the Dinner with the Judiciary includes an impressive panel comprised of Judge Jane Boyle, Northern District of Texas; Matt Orwig, Winston & Strawn; and Rob Crain, Crain, Lewis & Brogdon.

The Dinner will feature a one-hour CLE presentation on ethical issues than can arise when criminal and civil cases intersect, including how criminal admissions can affect civil cases, waivers of privilege, the effect of grand jury proceedings in later civil proceedings, ethical rules on using criminal matters to affect a civil litigation, and representation of joint clients in criminal and civil matters.

Attendees can expect an insightful and entertaining presentation that includes the panelists’ experiences with these issues and practice tips for handling any ethical issues that may arise from cases that include civil and criminal aspects. All Dallas judges have been invited to attend the event, so attendees can also expect an opportunity to meet and network with local judges.

The Dinner will be held on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at the Belo Mansion, starting with a cocktail hour with many Dallas Judges at 5:45 p.m. Dinner and the presentation will start at 7:00 p.m. and will conclude at 8:00 p.m.

The cost to attend is $35 per person and includes dinner and one hour of ethics CLE credit. Payment can be made by here or by sending payment, payable to DAYL, to Cherie Harris, DAYL Executive Director, 2101 Ross Avenue, Dallas Texas 75201.
